History

Hatch Mott MacDonald, a North American consulting company, was formed in 1996 by two global consulting firms, Hatch, headquartered in Mississauga, Canada, and Mott MacDonald, headquartered in Croydon, UK.

Initially, Hatch Mott MacDonald focused on the transportation market, providing services in tunnels, rail and transit, rail systems, bridges and highways, and aviation. The company grew rapidly, gaining a reputation as one of North America’s premier tunneling and transit engineering firms. In 2001, Hatch Mott MacDonald expanded its expertise by acquiring Killam Associates, a water, wastewater, and environmental services firm. With roots dating back to 1937, Killam brought a strong presence in the northeastern and southeastern U.S.

Since then, the firm has continued to grow, more than tripling in size primarily through organic growth. Strategic acquisitions have helped strengthen our presence and services in selected geographic areas and in specific market sectors.  Today, Hatch Mott MacDonald’s staff of 2,200 operates from more than 65 office locations throughout North America.
