At Hatch Mott MacDonald, we wish to be contributing members of the communities in which we live and work. Our Corporate Social Responsibility program involves giving back to these communities – participating in charitable and social programs to benefit those less fortunate than ourselves. Our CSR program utilizes branch office representatives across North America who coordinate and promote local and regional events.
HMM recognizes that involving employees in volunteer programs provides many benefits. In addition to helping those less fortunate, our CSR program provides our employees with opportunities to participate as a team, promoting social interaction outside our normal business activities. Since the launch of the program, our employees have participated in many volunteer programs and have donated tens of thousands of dollars (and hours) to various causes.
One of the many ways HMM provides help to those in need involves providing community support in the form of charitable donations. In 2010, Hatch Mott MacDonald made over $80,000 in corporate donations to various community and civic organizations. The following is just a sampling of those organizations which have benefited from HMM donations: American Cancer Society, Children’s Charity Trust, Habitat for Humanity, Jersey Battered Women’s Association, Missing Children’s Alert Program, Komen Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis society, United Way, Welcome Home Vets Fund, and the World Trade Center Scholarship.
In addition to corporate donations, many of our CSR events encourage employee monetary donations to specific charities. Our employees across North America have shown great generosity and support in contributing to charities including local soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and disaster relief funds. Whenever possible, HMM provides a corporate donation to these charities as well.
Many of our HMM locations support local organizations through office drives. Some of the recent drives include food for local food pantries, cell phones for domestic abuse victims, eyeglasses, coats, suits, socks, shoes and children’s clothing for various organizations, American Red Cross Blood drives, and toys for the T
oys for Tots program.
Sporting events that raise money for a cause are some of the most enthusiastically-supported CSR events at HMM. These events bring our employees together to raise money for a variety of good causes, while encouraging a healthy lifestyle and camaraderie among coworkers. Some recent events that HMM employees participated in this year include the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge races; Komen Race for the Cure; Run of the Charles Canoe Race; Calgary Corporate Challenge; Verizon Corporate Challenge 5K; the President’s Cup; American Cancer Society Relay for Life; and the MS Rona Ride.
As engineers, planners, scientists, and architects, Hatch Mott MacDonald employees work every day to help make our communities better places to live and work. But we don’t stop there. Our employees have also participated in many community construction projects outside of work including Earth Day cleanups, park developments, and Habitat for Humanity projects.
In 2010, Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake. HMM employees responded generously to the disaster, collecting cash and supplies for the relief effort. HMM donated a total of $37,000 (combined employee and corporate contributions), more than 500 pairs of jeans, and more than 300 pairs of shoes to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts.
