HMM’s group of mining professionals is comprised of mining engineers, civil engineers, geologists, GIS specialists, and environmental scientists. A capable and experienced staff of designers, draftspersons, and technicians is available for additional project support. HMM professionals continually receive training to maintain the high degree of technical expertise required to meet the ongoing changes within the mining industry. HMM maintains an excellent rapport with regulatory agencies to keep abreast of mining regulations and to eliminate costly delays in permit acquisition. HMM has the ability to apply cost-effective solutions for mining and environmental problems in a variable economic atmosphere. To secure approval for mining permits, operators need to prove a thorough understanding of the local hydrology by studying the watersheds in the permitted area; collecting background data; and documenting surface water locations, flows, quality, and other characteristics prior to mining. Monitoring must continue both during and after mining operations in the area. Regulators are placing greater value on intermittent streams, ephemeral streams, wetlands, and groundwater discharges such as seeps and springs; therefore, data collection and assessment is becoming a critical part of the mining support process.

Our professionals have worked with numerous state and federal Abandoned Mine Land (AML) programs, providing us with the familiarity to meet the requirements of any type of assignment in this area. The staff and equipment are available to perform investigative studies, long-term programmatics, construction design, contract bid documentation, or fast-paced emergency response engineering. Our design teams are created to meet the particular needs of each specific assignment using experienced managers, many with experience in the mining industry prior to consulting, and drawing from a large pool of specialists including civil/mechanical/environmental engineers, geologists, agronomists, stream morphologists, biologists, chemists, CADD designers, and other technicians.
