Tunnel Information Management (TIMS)

Relevant and accurate information is the cornerstone of successful management of any construction project. Hatch Mott MacDonald’s Tunnel Information Management System (TIMS) is a flexible web-based database that records, stores, manages, processes, analyzes, and presents large quantities of data collected during tunnel construction projects. TIMS provides staff with a powerful analytical tool to convert data to information for HMM staff involved in Tunnel Construction and Program Management roles. Because TIMS is based on real-time analysis, it provides HMM, the owner/client, and the contractor instantaneous relevant information to proactively manage risk and identify factors that impact construction early in the process—so proper construction management can take place.

Other benefits of TIMS include standardized reporting and detailed information on crew sizes, equipment, and tunnel operational efficiencies that can be used as feedback to HMM's Tunnel Estimating Database (TED) to enhance the accuracy of the assumptions on which TED operates. TIMS is currently being used and further enhanced on multi-million dollar tunnel construction projects. HMM’s information management specialists are also working to adapt this highly successful tool for use in other engineering applications.
