Hatch Mott MacDonald Project Receives Ohio Engineering Excellence Award

Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) recently received an American Council Engineering Companies (ACEC) Ohio award for the East 55th Street Rapid Transit Station. HMM served as lead project design consultant for this Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority project, which replaced a busy station—one of only three RTA stations that serves both light and heavy rail trains. HMM’s role included all architectural, civil, electrical, and mechanical elements. The project, which provided efficient passenger drop-off locations, and enhanced pedestrian access and circulation, now meets all ADA requirements and is a visually appealing landmark in its Slavic Village neighborhood. HMM overcame key challenges throughout the project, including managing construction staging to maintain safe railroad operations during construction.

HMM’s Darryl Brogan, Vice President in the Transportation Division, and key staff member on the project, accepted the award with RTA officials at the ACEC/OH awards luncheon held in late June.
