Cory Dippold

Project Engineer

My name is Cory Dippold, and I’m a project engineer in the structural group in Hatch Mott MacDonald’s corporate headquarters in Millburn, New Jersey. As a member of the structural group, I support all of the firm’s practices; however, I work with the water/wastewater and environmental groups most frequently. In addition, I’m also the Champion of Hatch Mott MacDonald’s model-based design Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology group.

BIM is a ground-breaking new 3-D modeling technology that is changing the way Hatch Mott MacDonald delivers projects. Using sophisticated 3-D models, we can work more collaboratively with clients and contractors, help ensure that our designs meet clients’ specific needs, and fast-track projects for delivery. BIM modeling allows clients to easily understand various project alternatives, costs, and benefits, and it can be used as a valuable asset management tool as well. As the BIM Champion, I am working to assist and guide the successful adoption of this modeling technology.

Hatch Mott MacDonald’s BIM initiatives have enabled us to expand our support capabilities across the country and beyond. My team is currently working with project teams in Los Angeles and Florida on major projects and pursuits, and we work regularly with offices throughout North America and abroad to support their efforts to adopt BIM technology.

The most interesting part of my job is the element of the unknown. Each day, my team is faced with unique scenarios for which we must develop creative, efficient solutions. On the engineering side, this makes for a dynamic work environment that allows us to be perpetual students of the practice. In addition, with the development of a new technology that is changing the way engineers work, we are charting new territory. At Hatch Mott MacDonald, I’m now reaching further, thinking wider, and executing smarter than ever before.
