Michael Schatz, PEng, CMC, is an Executive Vice President and the Managing Director for all of Hatch Mott MacDonald’s operations in Canada. With over 23 years of international experience, he excels in project implementation in both the public and private sectors, and in all phases of a project from conceptual definition and planning, through to design, construction, and start-up and commissioning.
Michael’s well rounded background in engineering, project management, and management consulting gives him a solid understanding of project requirements as well as the financial, community, risk, systems, and technological factors that must be considered to achieve effective and successful project implementation. Michael has been the project manager or project director for large-scale transportation, transit, and tunnelling projects for clients throughout North America. He has worked on some of the largest and most high-profile projects on the continent, including the $2.6 billion Port Mann Highway 1 project in Vancouver, the $6 billion Silicon Valley Rapid Transit extension of BART to San Jose in California, and the $1.6 billion Windsor-Essex Parkway in Ontario. Most recently, he has been involved in the development of a project implementation plan for the $8 billion Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit System in Toronto.
