Peter Cipolla
Business Development Director: Rail & Transit
As a Vice President and the Practice Leader for Rail and Transit, Peter Cipolla leads HMM’s rail practice in developing cost-effective and innovative engineering solutions for North American rail and transit agencies. With over 30 years of experience, Peter’s high-level background includes leadership positions in several public transportation organizations.
During his 10-year tenure at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), Peter served as the CEO and General Manager during the organization's multi-billion dollar highway and transit capital program. His public-sector experience overseeing the successful completion of major transit capital programs has given him a keen understanding of the needs of public agency clients and the complexities involved in delivering large multi-phased infrastructure projects.
Peter was also the General Manager/CEO of the Denver Colorado Regional Transportation, and the Chief Operating Officer for the Sacramento Regional Transit District in California. Most recently, Peter served as Project Principal for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Rail and Transit Program and Project Management Program.
Peter is a member of the Board on California’s Association of High Speed Trains and represents Hatch Mott MacDonald on American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Business Members Board of Governors. Peter served as the national APTA Chairman in 2001 and 2002.
