Hatch Mott MacDonald provided inspection, preliminary engineering, and final design services for the rehabilitation of 11 bridges around LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal Building.
Project Highlights:
Conducted deck reconstruction including: replacing and repairing deteriorated and leaking deck joints and replacing joint seals, deck drainage replacement, underdeck and on-deck concrete repairs with exposed reinforcement, girder bearing repairs, substructure concrete repairs with exposed reinforcement, and approach roadway improvements
Conducted a deck condition evaluation to assess various deck reconstruction alternatives
Established destructive and non-destructive testing protocols, including: deck coring and testing, delamination survey, half-cell testing, and pachometer testing
Prepared MPT plans considering high traffic volumes entering and exiting LaGuardia Airport. MPT plans considered the following: multiple stage construction, construction staging, detours, lane shifts, traffic signing, and an accelerated construction schedule
