Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) performed environmental consulting services for the Ocean County Planning Board related to the closure of one 30,000-gallon No. 2 fuel oil underground storage tank (UST). The UST was removed from Ocean County’s Justice Complex in Toms River, New Jersey as part of a building renovation and conversion to natural gas for the building heating system.
HMM performed engineering services which included preparation of construction specifications and preparation of site plans used to solicit bids from state-approved UST contractors. HMM observed the closure of the UST system and screened the excavated soil for the presence of contamination as required by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). After UST removal, soil samples were collected from below the invert of the tank and piping system.
HMM prepared a Site Investigation Report (SIR) in accordance with the NJDEP Technical Requirements to document the UST system closure, site assessment procedures, and soil sampling. No further action is required at this UST.
