Hatch Mott MacDonald is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City of Passaic’s sanitary and storm sewer systems, including the inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of the 65 mi system. HMM is also responsible for responding to customer complaints regarding sewer malfunctions and emergencies.
In order to track progress and make reports to the City of Passaic, HMM uses its own FieldbookTM Work Management System. On site, HMM crews use computers in local field offices and paper forms that can be printed and brought to the work site for completion. All data is migrated into FieldbookTM, which includes a digital version of the base sewer map and necessary database tables, allowing a custom management solution.
Project Highlights:
- HMM provides reports to the City and the Passaic Valley Sewage Commissioners on a monthly basis
- HMM inspects all sanitary sewer manholes on a four yr cycle and a select list of manholes is proactively inspected every period to ensure problem free sewer flow
- All sewer lines are inspected by video camera or dye on a 10 yr cycle (35,000 LF/yr)
- HMM checks storm sewer catch basin grates on a regular basis and after significant events such as storms and clears them as necessary
- HMM handles customer complaints by responding to the site of the complaint in no more than an hour, and in the event of a malfunction, mobilizes within three hrs
- All repairs are completed by HMM either immediately or are contracted out to HMM by the City Engineer
