SR-87- Environmental Documentation/Design

The Florida Department of Transportation retained HMM to prepare the required environmental documentation, acquire Federal Highway approval, design, and complete environmental permitting for the 19.9 mi long SR 87. The southern segment of the project is in the Eglin Air Force Base and required extensive coordination and documentation to meet the requirements of Department of Defense.

The project also required extensive coordination with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Eglin Air Force Base, and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission due to the location of the project and potential impacts to several listed species, as well as numerous wetlands, designated Outstanding Waters, trails, and boat launches. The project also required the coordination/permitting/design of a bear crossing.
